On the Lower East Side, a 14-story condo with massive apartments will rise

The condo, which will be located on Chrystie Street, will have 14 apartments along with ground-floor retail

A 14-story condo building is set to rise on Chrystie Street, just behind the New Museum, on the Lower East Side. The Real Deal first reported on the project, which will bring 14 new apartments to the neighborhood.

Two low-rise buildings at 199 and 201 Chrystie Street will first need to be demolished to make room for the condo building. The developer, KD Sagamore Capital, has already submitted plans for that.

The project came about after the developer’s purchase of the two buildings for a total of $20 million. KD Sagamore purchased the three-story structure in 2015 for $11.2 million, and the two-story building for $8 million earlier this year.

The low-rises will give way to a condo building with massive apartments—units here will average 2,565 square feet. The building will also feature retail on the ground floor, a rooftop terrace, and a gym.

Plans filed with the city’s Department of Buildings list R. Wade Johnson as the architect of record. This new condo will rise just a block away from the Herzog & de Meuron-designed hotel-condo building at 215 Chrystie Street.
